My sister has been addicted to drugs for more than 25 years. I never knew how to speak about it. When it comes to her, there are very few things I understand. These three reasons — her constant disappearances, the impossibility of talking about it, and my inability to make sense of all of “this” — are what push me today to make theatre about her, around her, with her.
Not to understand. But to hear her, to hear her mystery and what her life has to say. I am a stage director, and I’ve decided to step onto the stage myself, to let my sister’s voice be heard. With two actresses and myself, we explore her daydreams, her violences, her fantasies, her multiple lives, in order to dismantle the stubborn idea that a life touched by drugs is a life that’s been lost.
My sister is alive, and every night, it bursts in our faces.
